My name is Teresa Takeuchi. I’m a fourth-generation Japanese Canadian from Richmond BC. I graduated from Emily Carr University of Art and Design in 2000. I returned to Vancouver after living in Vienna, Austria for 7 years and currently reside in the lower mainland. I am teaching and teching in Surrey BC.
I typically draw inspiration from food and my environment. I want my art reflects my need to express myself. When I work with clay, I do not want to predefine who I am or what I do. I start with a general concept and as I work, then it changes and evolves with my distracted personality. Like any process it takes continuous repetition and redefining
I mainly work with cone 6 stoneware clay and porcelain slip. I love to work on the wheel and make bowls. There is something so calming and relaxing about just throwing bowls. But I also handbuild and use prefab or homemade molds.

Most of the glazes I use are made from various recipes I have either created or collected from other ceramic artists. I have altered some recipes to compensate for the different chemical composition of Austrian chemicals while also supplementing my palette with locally made glazes

Sepia decals made from photocopies, and single lithography type photocopies. I want the image to have its own mind like the clay. The image doesn’t have to be perfect, it can be lighter or darker or move with the glaze.
